Meet the Principal Investigator

Joseph Lee Newberg, MD

Principal Investigator

Dr. Joseph Newberg is a board-certified physician and highly experienced clinical researcher with more than three decades of medical and research expertise. He began participating in pharmaceutical research in 1994 and has served as a Principal Investigator and Sub-Investigator across 50+ Phase I–IV clinical trials, overseeing studies in cardiovascular disease, obesity, neurology, vaccines, endocrinology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, and general medicine.
His research portfolio includes complex protocols involving novel therapeutics, biologics, vaccines, and medical devices, conducted with diverse patient populations and rigorous study designs. Dr. Newberg has extensive experience working with major pharmaceutical sponsors and CROs and has successfully completed FDA and internal regulatory audits with no action indicated findings.
His clinical background spans high-acuity emergency medicine, urgent care, and general medicine, paired with extensive leadership experience directing multidisciplinary teams across multiple hospital systems. As a Medical Director, he has led physician training, quality improvement initiatives, and safety protocol implementation, bringing strong operational leadership and regulatory expertise to clinical research.
Dr. Newberg earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine and currently serves as Medical Director of Urgent Care at the University of Chicago. His depth of experience, commitment to scientific rigor, and patient-first approach help ensure that clinical trials are conducted with integrity, safety, and exceptional participant care.
